Seismogenesis of the Double Seismic Zone beneath Northern Honshu, Japan from High-resolution Seismic Velocity and Attenuation Tomography » Double seismic zones (DSZ) at intermediate depths have been found in most subduction zones worldwide. The genesis of seismicity in the DSZ has been proposed to be linked with fluids dehydrated from hydrous minerals in the slab based on seismic observations. However, the physical constraints, especially on the lower plane, are still rare and/or of low resolution, making it difficult to fully understand the spatial evolution of fluid content, fluid migration, and the seismogenesis of the DSZ. Here we image high-resolution 3-D seismic velocity (Vp, Vs, and Vp/Vs) and attenuation (Qp) structures of the DSZ beneath northern Honshu, Japan using the recently developed triple-difference velocity tomography method (tomoTD) and the double-difference attenuation tomography method (tomoDDQ). Our velocity tomography approach used station-pair, event-pair, and double-pair differential arrival times from 5,768 earthquakes recorded by permanent stations. Our attenuation tomography approach consists of three main elements, th Ui.adsabs.harvard.edu
